You have probably heard on the news by now that five members of the Occupy protest movement were arrested for trying to detonate bombs under a bridge in Cleveland.
Well, as far as we can tell at the moment, at least one of the anarchists was also an atheist:
The group of men arrested for trying to blow up a bridge in Brecksville had ties to Occupy Cleveland.
One of the leaders of an Occupy protest which was to have taken place in Cleveland on Tuesday afternoon acknowledged the accused plotters’ ties in an email message.
The Facebook pages of at least two of the five men list their place of employment as “Occupy Cleveland.”
Joshua Stafford calls hiimself an “atheist” on his Facebook page, while Brandon Baxter lists his political affiliation as Anarch-Communist on his.
Oh, and I doubt the “Anarch-Communist” was big on attending Bible studies.
Now Mike, you need to use more careful logic here. While these people may profess to be atheists they were doing evil. Evil is a characteristic of religion, and therefore these actually were religious people.
Ahem, anyway. To any atheist friends reading – this of course isn’t to blame you for this incident. However, it IS to call for a little bit of humility and modesty in some of your moral triumphalism.
“However, it IS to call for a little bit of humility and modesty in some of your moral triumphalism.”
Why?
My morals have nothing to do with my atheism. My morals come from reason and understanding. I doubt someone who wanted to blow up a bridge had much of either.
“Why?”
Oh I don’t know. Something about simple wisdom and maturity.
What a bunch of jerks…
WFO!!
Great to hear from you! Are you back?
Will be on the first of June – for 8 months. Feel free to shoot me an email, if you like.
