More on the Gnu Wars

The Gnu wars continue on. Here you can read Thunderf00t take after Richard Carrier and highlight the uncomfortable fact that Carrier will be speaking at a convention for Madalyn Murray O’Hair’s group without first making sure O’Hair’s group will add a plus to their name.

Anyway, if you read through the comments (after reading the posting), the atheists over at FreeThoughtsBlog have been accused of trying to calm the storm by banning people and deleting comments. Carrier himself had a meltdown on his own blog after joining the plussers, calling people retards and douchebags. Given he is one of the smartest men to walk this Earth, he draws upon his philosophical mastery to rationalize his potty-mouth:

Someone who reads the article, in which I define a douchebag as someone who rejects the core values of compassion, integrity, and reasonableness, and then says they reject those values, is indeed a douchebag. By their own declaration.
It would be a different matter if they said they thought those were bad values and then gave an actual, logically sound argument for why they are bad or what they should be replaced with.
But no, they just up and rejected them.
That’s a douchebag by definition.

LOL. Whatever. But now he’s making it harder for other plussers.

They have to explain how their higher level of compassion and sensitivity allows for such name-calling and outburst like this:

There is a new atheism brewing, and it’s the rift we need, to cut free the dead weight so we can kick the C.H.U.D.’s back into the sewers and finally disown them, once and for all……I am fully on board. I will provide any intellectual artillery they need to expand this cause and make it successful……In the meantime, are you an atheist? Do you identify as an atheist? Then I call upon you to pick sides within our movement (not in comments here, but publicly, via Facebook or other social media): are you with us, or with them; are you now a part of the Atheism+ movement, or at least cheer and approve it’s values and aims (since you don’t have to label yourself), or are you going to stick with Atheism Less and its sexism and cruelty and irrationality?

Then at least we’ll know who to work with. And who to avoid.

So Jen McCreight, founder of the A+ group, eventually responded:

Finally had time 2 read Richard Carrier’s #atheismplus piece. His language was unnecessarily harsh, divisive & ableist. Doesn’t represent A+

Ouch. Looks like Carrier shot that powerful artillery and blew his foot off.

Word of advice for Gnus – you better vote for Romney and hope he appoints someone who will somehow resurrect the threat of teaching creationism in school or something like that. Four more years of this and the A+!# atheists will threatening to kick the A*&3 atheists in the balls because an A-/A+ atheist spilled coffee on a transsexual while they were waiting for the elevator.

I particularly liked “Atheism+. Because Bright didn’t fail hard enough”

    Isn’t Nick a big Carrier fanboy? 🙂

I am laughing my ass off – Carrier, the quintessential gamma, tries to be the ultimate white knight male feminist by fearlessly fighting for the cause of the BlagHag. But oops, he crosses the line and gets rejected, for all of his efforts. FAIL.

I have to admit, I had trouble accepting that Carrier was being serious. He came across as a complete self-parody, and the smackdown of “Carrier does not speak for us” is priceless. He tried to be the big bad leader of the new movement and he got blown off.

“The years ahead promise many more juicy examples to marvel over.”
