Richard Dawkins Continues to Shred His Reputation

Anti-religious activist Richard Dawkins is increasingly be shunned by more atheists and members of the media.  He had a very bad month……

ET TU, BRUTE?

I finally unfollowed and blocked Richard Dawkins on Twitter. He retweeted this, and that was just the final straw…… He’s taken “Dear Muslima” and amplified it with a graphic image and an even more odious comment. And he’s still completely unaware of what’s wrong with it.  Done. No more.  At least it settles one thing: I won’t be attending the Reason Rally. Any movement with that man as its figurehead does not represent me.

OOPS!

Richard Dawkins has accidentally tweeted a link to an infamous Neo-Nazi slogan….. Dawkins has since deleted his tweet, confirming that he wasn’t aware of the “obnoxious message” before tweeting the image. He hasn’t yet responded to a further question from Business Insider about the source of the image.

A DISILLUSIONED FAN

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’m done with Richard Dawkins….. Richard Dawkins does not represent me. He doesn’t represent atheists. He doesn’t represent scientists. He’s a single person with too much power who’s clearly become enamored with himself and needs to be gracefully demoted by the movement he helped build, not followed off the cliff he’s marching it toward.

EVEN SKEPTICS UNINVITE HIM

Famed evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins has been dropped from a science conference in New York City after he shared a video comparing Islamists to feminists on Twitter.

It’s interesting to read the previous fans as they scratch their heads wondering how the author they once loved so much no longer exists.  Here’s a clue for the ex-Dawkins fans. When he wrote his books, he had something called an “editor.”  When he tweets, he doesn’t.

  1. The guy quite frankly annoys the shit out of me. He is an arrogant, self indulgent, judgemental man who does not paint a pretty picture of an atheist. I am Agnostic, but even I appreciate some Atheist representatives, that he is not one of.

  2. Kevin says:

Dawkins: blah blah blah mock Christians blah blah
    Progressives: Yeah! Yeah! Go Richard!

Dawkins: blah blah blah mock progressives blah blah
    Progressives: BIGOT!

  3. mechanar says:

question is who will fill that vacuum? Or is this another sign that the atheist movment is imploding?

  4. Yemi says:

Even though I am glad Richard Dawkins is getting is just desserts, he is at least somewhat consistent in is hatred/mocking of all religion. The others have combined their atheism with a progressive/SJW ideology and, to me, are much, much worse.

  5. The original Mr. X says:

I think Kevin’s got it right. Dawkins was always an obnoxious blowhard, it’s just that now he’s being obnoxious about people the prog left view as being on their side.

I agree. But I doubt Dawkins is standing on principle. I think it more likely that he looks around at his own country and notices that as Christianity is fading, it is not being replaced by rational secularism. On the country, a niche has been opened to be filled by Islam. I recall reading a couple of days ago that every 100 minutes or so, a girl infant in the UK has her genitals mutilated.

  7. Kevin says:

That’s probably true, since he recently stated that Christianity may very well have acted as a bulwark against something worse (Islam).

Back in 2011, Dawkins gave Hitchens his last interview. Dawkins asked, “Do you ever worry that if we win and, so to speak, destroy Christianity, that vacuum would be filled by Islam?”

Fellow New Atheist Sam Harris is in a similar position regarding his edited books vs his unedited blog entries, lectures and public pronouncements:

My copy editor at Norton performed a veritable exorcism upon the text, armed with nothing but a red pencil.

“The End of Faith”, Acknowledgements, P.333

A “veritable exorcism” upon the text. There’s two obvious choices here: one is to accept, as I think Harris intended us to accept, that “veritable exorcism” refers to very major changes to, and especially to very major deletions from, his original text.

The other — for those who might quibble that “veritable exorcism upon the text” means the above, er, if not, what does it mean — is to accept, as I myself can certainly accept very readily, that Harris is very good indeed at producing sentences which appear to have a clear meaning but are actually vacuous.

When Richard Dawkins presented his Alternative Thought for the Day live on BBC Radio 4, back in 2002, he didn’t have something called an “editor” then, either. If you think of his presentation as one of Dawkins’ typical rabid tweets, delivered by voice and extended to approximately three minutes, you’ve got the flavour of it quite nicely.
