Collateral Damage

Activist Jerry Coyne writes:

Far too many Americans see student lives as collateral damage to the necessary production and ownership of guns. That’s just sick.

Ah, yes. That smug, fake sense of being “woke.” Problem is that Coyne already views the death of children as collateral damage. Let me make a few minor word changes:

Far too many Americans see children’s lives as collateral damage to the necessary production and consumption of alcohol. That’s just sick.

We’ve already seen that a child is much more likely to die at the hands of a drunk adult than a school shooter. All that’s left is to understand why Coyne is so willing to accept this collateral damage:

Coyne: “Washed down with a lovely local beer: Hop City 8th Sin Black Lager. A
lovely and creamy pint.”

Wait.

There is more we can note. Perhaps we should consider the Florida school shooting from an enlightened, deterministic perspective.

  1. John Branyan says:

The last several days I’ve been assured by many godless thinkers that evil doesn’t even exist. School shootings are the result of mental illness, which I’m also assured is “fully treatable”. The people I spoke with were quite vague on the details of how to define “mental illness”, who possesses the expertise to diagnose “mental illness” and what should happen to people who are “mentally ill” before they actually commit a crime.

Maybe regular conversations with atheists is why Coyne drinks?

I’m sure they know what they’d like to do to “faith-heads” whom they put into that category, but they know they’ll be scoffed at by most of the populace if they voice it.

The future of this type of thinking has been portrayed in Philip K Dick’s “The Minority Report” and its film adaptation: a ‘Precrime Unit’ to identify crimes and criminals ahead of the crime, and to do what it takes — intervention by compulsory treatment or by imprisonment — to ensure it never happens.

In the novel and film, it’s psychics who predict the crimes and the criminals; in the real world and their absence, Jerry Coyne, Sam Harris, Raoul Martinez and their like (such as your “godless thinkers”) will presumably want and need a repeated legally compulsory battery of diagnostic hence predictive physical and psychological examinations — or if not, what exactly — of each individual, and the legal powers to treat or imprison any who fail the examinations.

    I didn’t know that!

Besides, since when did these determinists start caring about their fellow “bags of blood” and “clusters of cells”?

Here’s another — “Far too many Americans see children’s lives as collateral damage to the necessary production and consumption of indiscriminate orgasms. That’s just sick.
