One Thing Leads to Another

Spirit of the age…..

Lying about your age on dating websites is usually considered a bit of a faux pas. Now a 69-year-old Dutchman wants the courts to make him officially 20 years younger, likening the change to identifying as transgender.

Emile Ratelband has launched a legal bid to change his age by 20 years in order to improve his chances with women on dating applications like Tinder and help with job prospects, according to reports in Dutch media.

“You can change your name. You can change your gender. Why not your age? Nowhere are you so discriminated against as with your age,” Dutch paper De Telegraaf quoted Ratelband as saying.

[…]

According to the newspaper, the court is skeptical about Ratelband’s case as there is no legal precedent in this area.

The court can be skeptical, and will probably rule against him, but his logic is quite sound if we embrace the overall belief system of postmodernism/social justice.  After all, if one’s sex is whatever we happen to feel it is, and we can change our sex simply by having courts change it for us to serve our feelings, then the same should hold true for age.  After all, there are lots of people who look and feel younger than they are,  just as there are lots of people who look and feel older than they are.  If a 69-year-old Dutchman wants to be known as a women, the courts will facilitate this.  If the same a 69-year-old Dutchman wants to be 20 years younger, by what logic does the court suddenly say no?

And he is right about people discriminating against the elderly.  According to WHO, ageism is “the most socially “normalized” of any prejudice, and is not widely countered – like racism or sexism. These attitudes lead to the marginalisation of older people within our communities and have negative impacts on their health and well-being.”

Now, imagine if he wanted to become a 49 year old woman.  If the court said you can be a women, but not 49 years old, how is this not bigoted ageism?  Are the transgender folk truly more valuable than the elderly?

Look, it would seem to me that if our culture and law embraces the logic of the transgender movement, then eventually it will have to follow through and embrace the logic of Emile Ratelband.  All it will take is enough court challenges to find the right judge.  And when we reach the point where someone’s age, as part of their identity, is whatever they say it is, then the next step is right around the corner..

Chicago man accused of sexually assaulting three young girls told prosecutors he considered himself a boy in a man’s body, according to Cook County court documents…..During a hearing Wednesday, prosecutors said Roman admitted to some of the attacks and told Chicago police “he is a 9-year-old trapped in an adult’s body.”

I myself self-identify as a six year old girl, who self-identifies as a two hundred and three year old male, who self-identifies as a paedophile, who self-identifies as a highly moral person.

You guys don’t realise how bigoted you are against victimised people like me. Nobody takes us seriously. They call me mad, mad, mad I tell you; me! mad! But I’m looking for the right judge, then I’ll show ’em who’s mad.

  2. TFBW says:

    You’re not mad.

The guy who identifies as you, on the other hand — he’s out of his gourd.

” … in order to improve his chances with women on dating applications …” (from Michael’s OP)

It’s always about sex, isn’t it?

  4. Dhay says:

We all self-identify, I reckon, strutting our brief hour upon the stage not only before others but also before ourselves.

  5. David Heddle says:

Governments should embrace this. In the US, this would solve the Social Security solvency crisis.

This guy makes me feel ashamed for my country.

At least in his case it seems to be, despite the fact that he’s relatively famous and so that would help with getting female attention. At age 68 he had a 21-year old girlfriend. And he has no less than 7 children.
But it’s also just getting attention. This is a guy who said he followed Islam and that Osama bin Laden was a “freedom fighter” and “an enlightened thinker” (https://www.ad.nl/buitenland/emile-ratelband-osama-had-duidelijke-principes~a0a022a3) and once pulled the emergency brake because he had to stand in the train (https://www.nrc.nl/nieuws/1999/02/08/er-moet-altijd-een-leider-zijn-7434332-a346853)

Apparently, the Hungarian State Opera seeks to get around the Gershwin Estate’s insistence that “Porgy and Bess” must be performed by an all-black cast … by asking white Hungarian cast members to self-identify as African-Americans.

    https://www.theguardian.com/stage/2019/apr/07/white-porgy-and-bess-cast-forced-to-say-they-identify-as-african-american

I wonder whether the Gershwin Estate will allow that.

  8. TFBW says:

I wonder which jurisdictions would allow the Gershwin Estate to be sued for racial discrimination.

  9. nsr says:

Surely anti-discrimination laws have to be applied equally across the board. People might argue that it’s OK for certain groups to discriminate because they’re persecuted minorities, but by that logic presumably it’s OK for radical minority political sects to commit acts of terrorism that mainstream majority governments would be condemned for.
