What if Atheists Argued with Post-Modern Christians?

Let’s look in on an exchange between Chris the Postmodern Christian and Alan the atheist. Chris defeats the atheist with a tweaked version of postmodern apologetics. 😉

Chris:  I am a child of God.  Jesus died for my sins and God has forgiven me.

Alan:  But how do you know God even exists?

Chris: I am a child of God.  I can feel God’s existence with every fiber of my being.  It’s who I am.  It’s how I self-identify

Alan: But I don’t think God exists.

Chris:  So you are denying my existence?!  You are denying my humanity?!

Alan: Er, no, I can clearly see you standing there and freely acknowledge your existence.

Chris: But you deny how I self-identify.  You deny who I am!!  Why are you so hateful?  Why are you so mean?  God loves me and also loves you!

Alan: Look, I’m sure you are very sincere in your beliefs.  I just don’t share those beliefs.

Chris: Bigot!

Alan:  No, I just don’t see any evidence that God exists.

Chris: But I told you, I am a child of God.  I feel it deeply and have felt this way since I was a young child.  It is part of my very, core, identity.  Why do you deny my existence?!

Alan:  Again, I don’t deny your existence.

Chris: So you acknowledge I am a child of God?!

Alan: I acknowledge that you believe you are a child of God.  I just don’t share that belief because I need more than your personal feelings.

Chris: So you deny my existence!!!

Alan: No, I just need evidence and your feelings are not good enough.

Chris:  So now I have to prove my very existence to you otherwise you will strip my humanity from me?!!  Who do you think you are??

Alan: It’s been nice talking to you, but I think it best to agree to disagree.

Chris:  Oh no you don’t!  You don’t get to disagree with my existence!  Who do you work for?  Does your job know you are a Christophobic bigot?

Chris:  Hello?  I’m talking to you.

Chris: Ga

Chris:  God loves you….

Spot on. No functional difference between the mode of argument. The only difference between “self-identification” as a child of God and “self-identification” of a man as a woman is the preference to accept or reject it on the part of the hearer. It’s some wonder that those who traffic in this kind of nonsense can’t imagine anyone using the same poorly thought out argument to justify being normal and traditional.

Ah, but that’s just conditioning by The Patriarchy™! Obviously, any truly liberated persyn would only ever choose the most Fabulous of personalities and never something… normal.

The people who traffic in this nonsense break down into two main categories: those that are so dim that they fail to see it can justify anything (useful idiots), and those who are quite aware of that fact but weren’t planning to accept the argument in cases where it defends something they oppose. The latter group values winning more than integrity.
