Let’s look in on an exchange between Chris the Postmodern Christian and Alan the atheist. Chris defeats the atheist with a tweaked version of postmodern apologetics. 😉
Chris: I am a child of God. Jesus died for my sins and God has forgiven me.
Alan: But how do you know God even exists?
Chris: I am a child of God. I can feel God’s existence with every fiber of my being. It’s who I am. It’s how I self-identify.
Alan: But I don’t think God exists.
Chris: So you are denying my existence?! You are denying my humanity?!
Alan: Er, no, I can clearly see you standing there and freely acknowledge your existence.
Chris: But you deny how I self-identify. You deny who I am!! Why are you so hateful? Why are you so mean? God loves me and also loves you!
Alan: Look, I’m sure you are very sincere in your beliefs. I just don’t share those beliefs.
Alan: No, I just don’t see any evidence that God exists.
Chris: But I told you, I am a child of God. I feel it deeply and have felt this way since I was a young child. It is part of my very, core, identity. Why do you deny my existence?!
Alan: Again, I don’t deny your existence.
Chris: So you acknowledge I am a child of God?!
Alan: I acknowledge that you believe you are a child of God. I just don’t share that belief because I need more than your personal feelings.
Chris: So you deny my existence!!!
Alan: No, I just need evidence and your feelings are not good enough.
Chris: So now I have to prove my very existence to you otherwise you will strip my humanity from me?!! Who do you think you are??
Alan: It’s been nice talking to you, but I think it best to agree to disagree.
Chris: Oh no you don’t! You don’t get to disagree with my existence! Who do you work for? Does your job know you are a Christophobic bigot?
Chris: Hello? I’m talking to you.
Chris: God loves you….
